The forecast is looking pretty horrific for Saturday, but weather forecasters have got it wrong before, so I better put up the schedule for this Saturday’s first round of the winter league (Winter Warrior Cup). If the race is called off we will just add an extra date in the New Year and the first race will then be on the 19th of December.
What is it? The Winter League is a series of 4 races that will take place over the winter to prepare us for the start of the racing season in early February. You can take the races as serious as you like. If you think its way too early to be throwing in a tough effort then do your own thing. It’s mainly just a way to add some intensity and focus to our off season training. It gives those members in the club, that plan on racing for the first time, a chance to experience what racing is like and make sure they are up to speed for the start of the season.
When & Where? starts this Saturday, 10:30 at Roscrea side of Toomevara. Nenagh CC club will be meeting at 9:00 at the hotel in Nenagh for an extended warm-up.
Who can enter? anyone with a Cycling Ireland license
Route: the race starts from Toomevara and goes out to Roscrea before turning back towards the finish in Nenagh. Distance = 50km. It is a flat route on a main / wide road with good surface the whole way. Each subsequent race – the start line will be brought closer to Nenagh, so by race 4 the total race distance will be 62km.
Race Format: there will be 3 handicapped groups on the road. Each group works together until the bunches merge (we hope to merge with 20km to go). After that, it is a free for all.
