The final weekend of cycling in July is upon us. The weather looks good so let’s get out and make the most of it. Best of luck all our club members that are racing this weekend. We have some members heading down to the Raparee hosted event and some heading out west. Most of us are resting up for the all important County Champs next Tuesday where Nenagh CC will once again be looking to trounce the opposition! Before we get into what’s happening, a big congrats is due to Tommy Hanrahan for gaining promotion to the A2 ranks. It should have happened years ago for him, as he has the talent, but…better late than never. That makes it 7 riders from the club in the A1/A2 ranks. Who will be next? No pressure Con or Jurgen!
Friday: National Criterium in Limerick. Kevin Sherlock was at this and we are still waiting for a report.
Saturday Spin: leave at 9:00am from the hotel.
Route: we will try the hilly route tomorrow. Apologies to those that have a fear of heights! There are plenty of short cuts on this route so feel free to take all of them. The key to this cycle is not to tear up the first one like a lunatic and being wiped by the time you get to the last. Try and pace it correctly while still going reasonably hard. The split will happen on Army Hill tomorrow. The racing group will head to Gortagarry, while the Group 1 turn for Toom on the descent off of Army Hill. That should be a large head start. For beginner cyclists, try to do Nenagh, Moneygall, Army Hill, Toomevara and back to Nenagh. If feeling strong go further!
- Raparee Cup – this race takes place in Dundrum, Co. Tipperary. It involves multiple loops of a 5km circuit. Best of luck to all club members heading down there.
- Connaught A4 2 Day – Will Rymer better not make a fool of the club up in Mayo.
Sunday: starts at 8:00 from Tescos. We will be heading around the lake and home via Broadford / Daly’s Cross. Two hours of power to be included with a nice coffee stop sandwiched in between them.
Racing: Munster race is in Blarney on Sunday.
