Weekend Cycling

The weather forecast is looking super for the weekend. Warm, sunny and just a gentle breeze = perfect conditions for cycling! It could possibly be the first shorts and jersey only day. No doubt I have jinxed it now so wrap up warm. For the first time in a while I can say that I am really looking forward to getting out on the bike this weekend. If you haven’t been out in a while then come join us – lots of our racing cyclists our away racing this weekend so the speed of the bunch is slower than usual. There will never be a better time to join in.

So…what’s on the menu this weekend?

Friday: Training – our evening cycles are proving to be great sessions. It is something a little different for the club and we would highly recommend you attend.

Details: 6:15 – 7:45 at Stereame car park. Try to be there on time and bring lights. At this stage it is nearly bright for most of the cycle but you will still need lights all the same. We will do an hour-long set. The set will be called in the car park.

Saturday

Training: Two possible training sessions.

Session 1: Club spin at 9:00am from the hotel.

Route: We will do the Broadford route on Saturday. The route is a little different to the map below, as we head out towards Daly’s Cross before turning for O’Brien’s Bridge. A good turn off point is O’Brien’s Bridge. The group will split in Birdhill with the racing group heading up the ramp. There will probably be two groups on the road for this.

Session 2: the Tri club have a TT event at 2:00 for anyone that is interested in getting in a little extra training. It is a team TT with 2 or 3 riders in a team. Check out their latest website post for the full details.

Racing: Rás Mhaigh Eo – we have a team of 5 heading up to this stage race. Eamon, Mike, Kevin, Matty and Dan make up a pretty decent team. I am sure the lads will be looking to get someone on the podium at the end of the 3 stages. Without any TT practice that might be a little difficult in this race. The lads will need to be aggressive and ‘get up the road’ at some stage if they are to do well. Best of luck everyone!!

Sunday

Training: Meet at 8:00 at Tescos. I would imagine it will be the lake route. Ye all know the story with that route at this stage.

Racing: Most of the team will be racing up in Mayo but there is also a Munster race in Dungarvan – details on the poster below. There is actually an A4 race up At Rás Mhaigh Eo on the Sunday for those that might want to head up to race with the rest of the team.
