TriAthy Race Report

As promised a great report from Sinead Kennedy!

A nervous Nenagh Triathlon convoy headed off VERY early Saturday morning to Athy in search of some National Series points.  Weather conditions were favourable. We left so early the bonus was avoiding any queues in registration! After some time socialising and drinking tea the bikes were racked, wetsuits were pulled on and before we knew it the women were first off and the waiting was over and the fun had just begun! The water was surprisingly a comfortable temperature. The bike leg was fast and everyone attained good bike splits. The 10k run however was a little bumpy and a bit too close for comfort running against people along the canal but we all endured the hardship and battled on for the sake of our club (die hard members!).

Sinnead Oakes was the first lady home in a whopping time of 02:24:13, this secured Sinnead 9th place overall in the women’s and 3rd place in her age group. Next home was Cliodhna McGrath ( 02:35:01) (ask no questions!!!!), Sinead Kennedy (02:44:18), Majella Moyles (02:49:16) and and Anita Egan (03:11:37). Representing the club males Cian McCormack was first home in a great time of 02:24:59, Johnny Meagher (02:39:07) and PJ Brett (02:50:42). Great individual results and for the club and many valuable National Series points were scored. A special well done to Sinead Kennedy, Anita Egan and P.J. Brett on their first Olympic finish.

In the Sprint that was held much later in the day we were represented by John Ryan who finished in a time of 01:30:46 and Sheila Gregan in a time of 01:37:06.  Well done to both.
