Swimming for 2017 season

Hello all!!

We hope that you are all having a well deserved break and will be rearing to go for the coming season in October! In the meantime the club committee are in the process of arranging the winter timetable and more information on this will be put up over the next 2 weeks.

However, from a swimming perspective things are already beginning to get underway and a number of changes to the current set-up have been made. As most of ye will be aware this year sees the formation of the Nenagh Masters swimming club and will provide the opportunity for members to improve their swimming in a more formal setting with weekly coached sessions as well as allowing members to compete in the Masters galas in various pools and leisure centres around the region.

The triathlon club committee would hope to see a good number of our members support this club in both the training sessions and attending the various swimming galas over the next number of months.

As a result of the formation of the Masters clubs there are a number of changes to the current swimming structure.

  • 8.15-9.00pm Monday:             Coached lane swimming
  • 6.30 -7.45am Tuesday:           Triathlon Swimming session
  • 8.00-9.00pm Wednesday:      Masters Swimming session (will likely change to 9pm in Oct)
  • 6.30-7.45am Thursday:          Triathlon Swimming session (similar set to Wed night)
  • 6.30-7.45am Friday:               Masters Swimming session

For those who wish to swim and who have not joined the Masters swimming club there are a number of options available.

On Wednesday 8.00-9.00pm there is one lane available and so can take 6-7 swimmers. This session will be a formal coaching session with a coach on poolside in order to provide guidance and tips on stroke etc. This session is available to all triathlon club members with the basic requirement that you are able to complete around 50-100m front crawl without stopping. This session will be filled on a first come first served basis and those attending will need to pay for the session and the coach in advance.

A formal coaching session is also available on Monday 8.15-9.00pm with the same basic requirements and have vacancies for 3-4 swimmers at present in order to fully fill the lane. If there is sufficient interest a second lane for a further 5-6 swimmers can be created. Again there will be a coach on the poolside to offer guidance and stroke tips etc. and sessions are payable in advance similar to Wednesday sessions.

If you are interested in either of these formal sessions then get in contact with Paul on the viber group or at 086 1950330.

We would hope that those that continue to swim only the Tuesday and Thursday morning session will also consider joining the Masters club and affiliating with Swim Ireland (cost €40) and attend a number of the galas over the season. The Thursday session will be specific to this with a more varied range of distances, speeds and strokes covered. Later in the season we will then revert to the normal Thursday morning sessions.

We will arrange a meeting prior to the start of the traithlon Winter schedule to go over the timetable and available sessions and to get the thoughts of club members so keep an eye out for the update!!!!!
