Bright sunshine – CHECK, Sweltering heat – CHECK, Club Treasurer to tow around the lake – CHECK…….. There was only one thing to report on from this Saturday’s cycle and that was the rescuing of a damsel in distress on our cycle around the lake. Majella had an obvious premonition of disaster when we were eating our giant scones in Mountshannon as she firmly kept her helmet on throughout the break. However a few miles out the road, a broken chain and derailleur led to what was thankfully a minor spill, but led to a bike without any obvious means propulsion. Step up the knight in shining armour (Dan the “Hulk” Hogan) who quickly took two tubes out, tied them between the bikes and towed the said Treasurer home. It’s a testament to Dan’s cycling ability that the average speed actually increased on our way into Killaloe and we finished the four hour cycle at an average speed of 17.5mph. We’re now thinking of running a club lottery, to see who gets towed around by Dan next Saturday!
