Race Report by Majella Moyles
So where do we start with our first race report of Ras na mBan 2015…with the mobile hopping until way past midnight last night…or the nerves starting at 4.12am….or our arrival at Ennis. Let’s go with our arrival to our five ensuite bedroom, sunroom, study room, sitting room, kitchen and dining room = massive house. So it can be happily confirmed, all delighted with accommodation. As soon as the ladies, team manager Kenneth, co-driver Bertie and supporters were congregated, we headed over to sign on in Dromoland Inn. This took only minutes. Back to the house, load up on carbs, get bikes loaded up onto cars and back to Dromoland to start our first stage.
There were over 110 women at the start line, from UK, USA, Norway, France etc and of course us, from just across the Shannon. About 3km into the neutralized zone there was a crash, and Majella, for first time, managed to avoid it. The pace was pretty fast from the start, however the group managed to stay together as far as the first climb, which was a little over 31km in. Here the group split in two. Rachel managed to remain with the first group, and finished strong with them. Sinead and Monica came in only minutes behind in the second group. At 23km Sinnead got a puncture along with a Kilkenny fly deciding to lodge in one of her eyes. She did manage to get a spare wheel and finished well, along with her own group of waifs and strays. Majella was Patricia last of the Nenagh CC ladies, but happy to finish upright.
So it was back to house, eat, shower, rubs and take out few cans of bud and bottle of brandy….I wish. Of course all talk was about the race, the hill (similar to Dolla) and we are now here discussing tomorrows race….so until then.
We would like say thanks to all who travelled over to cheer us on…Gill, Matty, Mary Donnellan, Geraldine, Kyne boys, Mikey B, Brian, Noel, Ned, John, Julie…and others…huge thanks
