Bike racing team: All our members that are planning on cycling with Team DMG should try and get their Cycling Ireland license paid for this week. With only 4 weeks to the first race of the season you need to get this fully sorted soon. This week’s Saturday cycle saw 11 club members starting out on the A3 route. The pace was lively for the 64 miles and there were plenty of tired bodies by the finish. Next week, we will be back on the N7 again as we take on the Moneygall – Roscrea – Nenagh chain gang route. As usual there will be a Sunday spin around the lake. Try your best to make at least one of those cycles.
Turbo: These sessions continue to take place on Tuesday and thursday evenings at 7:30pm in the running complex. The intensity has increased for these so if you are looking to improve your cycling and get ready for the racing then try to make them.

Bike Racing Group: It was great to see everyone out last Tuesday for the easy lake cycle. This Saturday will be a little tougher. We are going to up the intensity a little as we build towards the start of the cycling season in February. It is important that you don’t miss these sessions. The more you miss the further behind you will go. The cycle will start at 9:00 from the pool. The total distance is 57 mile – this includes 25 rolling over from Moneygall on.
1 on 1 coaching:Bad news – the coach will be busy for the month of January so won’t be able to take any lessons until February. We know that’s a pain in the arse but there is nothing we can do about it!
The club would like to wish everyone a happy New Year. We hope to see ye back at training soon.
Triathlon Training: will be resuming again with our evening swim on Wednesday, Jan 2nd. Don’t worry we will take it easy on everyone on the first day back! The usual training time table will be followed in January as we prepare for the upcoming 2013 racing season. Make it your New Year’s Resolution to get stuck into training in January. You will feel all the better for it.
Bike racing team: We will be starting back on Tuesday, Jan 1st with a handy trip around the lake. This cycle will start at 9:00am from Melrose. This will be an easy cycle to get rid of the post Christmas hangover. It will help to get us ready for the increase in intensity that will be seen throughout January. Try your best to be there.
There is a table quiz on in Rocky’s this Friday Dec 28th starting at 8:30pm. It is being run by a club member so it would be great if club members could support it. All proceeds go to help the Keith Butler Gastric Band Fund autistic and Down Syndrome children. €20 per table + raffle.
What a shite day for cycling. That was easily the most miserable cycle of the year. It is not often that we cut a cycle short but all we could manage today was 50 miles. Morale had fallen life threateningly low and Hugh Flannery was in danger of getting sucked into the blackhole that was forming over our group. Wise heads prevailed and we bailed out of the cycle early, ready to fight another day. That day is…….tomorrow.
Tomorrow is looking like a much better day. So if you feel up for a long cycle then we are meeting at the pool at 9:00am (18/19 mph).
A few of the lads in the club are organising a series of long cycles over the Christmas. With everyone on holidays, there is no better time to get a few miles in the legs. Each spin will be 80+ miles long, with an average speed of 18 – 19 mph. This cycle is open to everyone in the club that feels like they can handle the distance and average speed. The focus is distance not speed.
The first cycle takes place on Dec 26th. This cycle is 89 miles long. Route: Nenagh > Dolla > Tipperary Town > Glen of Aherlow > Cashel > Thurles > Nenagh.
There is an option to go from Tipperary Town straight to Cashel if you are finding it tough.
A video was put together of the 2012 club triathlon season. Well done to everyone for all your effort in supporting the club throughout the year. The club would like to thank Thomas Moyles for all his work putting this together.
January is the perfect time to join the club. Instead of just reading this website and wishing you could get involved – make a new year’s resolution to join. Current club members come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Some people take training serious and some people just do it for the craic. If you are just finished playing team sports and want a new challenge then this could be the sport for you. Maybe you just want to lose weight and get fit, if so this sport is definitely for you.
The triathlon season really gets going in June. That gives you 6 months to get ready for your first triathlon. We hope to see you at some of our training sessions in January. Just do it.
