Nenagh League Race 4

After all the rain and cold weather these past few days the sun shone for the Nenagh League yesterday evening. We had another strong turnout with 45 signing on.

This lead to 4 groups on the road and for those who are still unsure of where they lie in the land of these sessions left pondering which group to go in. 1st or 2nd or even 3rd group?? As usual some got it right and some got it very wrong! The first group on the road was probably the largest group and they got off with a 6 minute handicap on the scratch group. The second and third groups followed a couple of minutes after one another.

It turned out to be a night that a lot of people struggled in all groups it seems with splits in every group and people splintered in varying degrees on the road.  The scratch group was also split which I think is a first (?) with some strong riders in the form of Conor Hennebry and Aaron O’Brien driving on the pace. There was a strong cross wind and there seemed to be nowhere to hide and recover from it.

Gearoid Costelloe and Pat Reddan  made a breakaway from the first group at the turning point at the Five Alley roundabout. They worked so well together that they managed to stay away from the scratch group and came in 1st and 2nd on the night. Conor Hennebry came in to take 3rd place. Rachel Clancy was the first woman home and Denis Ryan the first junior.

Well done to everyone who took part on what was a tough evening on the road for many reasons.

Thanks to our marshalls: Gill Mounsey, Kat (Gill’s non cycling friend!) and Ronan O’Driscoll (who brought the whole family along!). Thanks it was much appreciated.

Sunday Cycle: this will leave Tesco car park at 8am, and will take the usual route around the lake 70mls.

Monday Cycle: in preparation for the upcoming Mizen to Malin challenge, the club will take on an extra longer distance. We will start from hotel at 8am, and cover following route Nenagh – Roscrea – Templemore – Thurles – Newport – Limerick (Annacotty) – Birdhill – Nenagh 96mls. Weather is looking drier for Monday.

Racing: the club would like to wish best of luck to all those racing this weekend. Runners will be heading into Limerick to take part in the Great Limerick Run. While our cyclists will be heading further south to take part in the Kanturk – 3 day event. It’s looking like a triathlon race-free weekend, however I stand to be corrected. Would be great if one of our runners and/or cyclist send in a report following their race experience this weekend. And of course, photos are always welcome.
