Nenagh Gala Results

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the tri club and the recent formation of the Nenagh Masters Club a local gala was organised between the two clubs last Friday. There was plenty of friendly rivalry on display on the night with 35 in attendance. There were 6 different events to choose from starting with a 100m Front crawl, 25m Butterfly, 25m Back Stroke, 25m Breast Stroke, 50m Front Crawl and finally a 25m Front Crawl relay tri club vs masters. Some people did 1 or 2 races while other brave souls signed up for all of them.

It was no surprise that Darren Dunne turned out to be the star performer winning 6 of the 6 events, although his dad pushed him close in the FC sprints and Bobby Spillane rolled back the years to almost pip Darren in the Breast Stroke. The Fittest Family was won by the Dunnes who triumphed over the O’Dwyers who came out of nowhere to scalp the Scullys. The final relay was 16 vs 16 and the tri club had enough strength in-depth to take a convincing win. I doubt it will be as easy next time as the Masters Club are improving very quickly!

I love the way Stephen Forde’s name gets recorded as Ziggy just like all those other prima donnas – Bono, Sting, Prince, Madonna etc.

There was a large crowd of onlookers in the gallery and everyone that took part got great support. This Gala was a huge learning experience for most. Plenty of mistakes and belly flops were made but sure that is all part of the learning process. The times you set in this gala are your starting point. With every training session, training week, and training month that passes your times will improve so stick with it! This is only the start of a long journey.

This gala was a lot of fun and it is something we will definitely repeat in the future. It is great to see the two clubs working well together. The more people we get out swimming in Nenagh, the better it will be for both clubs.

If you fancy taking up swimming: January is the perfect time. Make it your New Years Resolution. Between the Tri club and the Masters club, there are now 4 excellent swim sessions each week to attend. Check out the weekly timetable for both clubs and get stuck in. Pop over to Facebook and ‘like’ both clubs:
