Nenagh CC Youth Race: Results

The first year of the Nenagh CC Youth Races attracted an entry of 50 young cyclists from around the country. The weather made things tough today, with a strong wind blowing and a nip in the air. This made for an interesting but enjoyable day of racing. The first race kicked off shortly after 11:00am with U/12s doing 1 lap. Then we had the U/14s doing 2 laps and the U/16s doing 4 laps. The racing was all over shortly after 12:00 and here is how things panned out:

Nenagh CC would like to thank

all the clubs and riders for attending our race. We would also like to thank all our marshalls and photographers on the day (too many to mention). Finally we would like to thank the Order of Malta and Casey’s garage in Toomevara who generously sponsored the race.

Nenagh CC Riders

For the 11 Nenagh CC riders that took part, they got to experience what it is like going up against the best of the best. Star performer on the day was Daniel Yon Hin who has improved hugely since taking up cycling a year ago. Daniel came home in 6th place in the U/14 race, while managing to stay with the bunch almost to the finish line. While Daniel might have been the star performer, everyone should be well satisfied with their efforts. It is not easy to line up against top cyclists like this. It can be a little nerve wracking but fair play to ye all for giving it a go!!

U/12 – we were represented in this race by Aoife Duggan, Ciara Sherlock, Conor Kirby, Darragh Kyne and Michael Kyne. Darragh was first home for the club finishing in the top 10 with Ciara just behind him. Darragh just got his first racing bike recently so he can be well proud of this result. Ciara also put in a huge performance and is really starting to race well. Not too far behind was Aoife Duggan who has made a big improvement over the last few months. Conor and Michael are still very young and have a bright future in cycling ahead of them.

U/14 – we were represented by Daniel Yon Hin, Odhran O’Driscoll and Mikey Griffin. Odhran was another lad who raced well but due to not being able to clip in at the start he ended up having to do most of the race by himself. He probably put in more effort than anyone but once you miss the bunch then it is an uphill struggle. Mikey Griffin put in a real good effort too and continues to improve; with a little bit more training he could do great things.

U/16 – we were represented in this by Denis Allen, Christy O’Meara and Calvin O’Brien. We were expecting big things from Denis in this race and things started off well for him. He was cycling nicely with the main bunch but hit the ground after a clash of wheels on the first of 4 laps. This killed his chances but to his credit he got back up on the bike and finished the race, working with Christy all the way to the line. Christy is starting to get back into good form and he should be very happy with how the race went. Calvin found it tough going in this race as most lads are nearly two years older than him. As per usual, he never gave in and finished the race strongly.

As a team, we did very well but we still have plenty of work to do. With a little bit of hardwork you too could be featuring in the prizes at races like this. It is no coincidence that Daniel did so well today as he rarely misses training and works hard. School has finished up for most so try to spend as much time on your bike as possible over the summer months.

Training: continues on Tuesdays at 6:00pm and Saturdays at 2:30pm. Older juniors should try the Nenagh Summer League on Thursdays at 7:00pm.
