Nenagh CC Updates

Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone! It’s miserable out there but at least a group got out on the road this morning before it got real bad. We also had Matty Kennedy making his welcome return to racing today down in Carrick. He is once again the no. 1 Kennedy in the club. King Kenneth has been deposed. Nice to see Chris making Nenagh CC great again over in California.  Pity he hasn’t been able to locate a bike over there yet. With the weather that is forecast, this might turn out to be a wash out of a training weekend. If not, we plan on doing the sessions laid out below.

Racing action: Matty Kennedy made the trip down to Carrick-on-Suir for this traditional St. Patrick’s Day race. This was Matty’s first one day A1/A2 road race so it was good for confidence to get off to a good start. Matty has missed a lot of training time since Christmas due to work but he was able to manage a decent bunch finish today. He found the first two of the 6 laps tough but once the breakaways got away it settled down a little after that and he was able to get his breath back. He worked as hard as he could to the end and finished pretty shattered. All n all, a good day at the office.

Saturday

Training: we will try the hill top finish again this week. We will head for Toom – Dolla – Silvermines – Birdhill – Daly’s Cross – O’Briens Bridge – Birdhill and back to the top of Dolla hill. Cool down back to Nenagh after that. We will be rolling from Toom onwards. Split in Toom with the racing group heading towards Moneygall first so as to give a head start.

Sunday

Training: meet at 8:00am at Tescos. The route will be called that morning.

Racing: there are two races on that might interest people. The main race of the day is the Des Hanlon Classic up in Carlow. This is always a tough race, but at least there is a separate A2 race so that might tempt a few up. There is also a race closer to home in Loughrea. Check out the race details in the posters below.
