I don’t know about you but my recovery rate after the club Christmas Night Out was poor. Just not enough drinking practice put in over the last few months. I don’t think I have what it takes to become a professional drinker. Time to put those dreams away for a few months and focus on the bike and the upcoming racing season. We got our first taste of this only two days ago at WW1. The club performed very well with some serious pace being shown. If this is going to be the peak of your season though then you are doing something wrong. This should give you a thirst for the real thing in February. Start thinking about your goals for next year and put a plan in place to achieve them.
Training: we have one more week left of official club training before the Christmas ‘break’. It’s not really a break as most of us will be cycling more than ever – so watch out for those sessions. We will be doing something similar to the 12 days/pubs/cycles of Christmas
- Tuesday – turbo in the GAA complex from 6:00 – 8:00
- Saturday – club cycle at 9:00 at the hotel. Things will be a lot more relaxed this week now that the Winter Warrior is over until the New Year.
- Sunday – lake cycle starting at 8:00 from Tescos.
Cycling Ireland Membership: you need to start thinking about renewing your license for the year. It expires at the end of the month but there is no need to wait that long. Renew it this week. From January onwards it gets very busy in CI headquarters so there can be a delay processing your ID.
Club Night Out: there was a huge turnout from the clubs on Saturday in Rocky’s. It was great to see so many of ye making it out. There was the usual boasting, brawling and lewd behaviour on display and that was just from the ladies! The men were much more civilised. It was pretty much agreed that Shane is always right and everyone else is always wrong. Well, that’s as much as I can remember from the night. Fair play to anyone that made it out on the bike the next day. That’s the sort of inner strength you need to succeed in the next round of the Winter Warrior!
