Nenagh CC Updates

The 2016 cycling season continues to wind down in the club. We still have a few racers in the last chance saloon trying to rescue something from the season – ye have another 3 or 4 weeks left to salvage something! Most in the club are on the go slow at the moment and many are off on the hols. The club training spins were nice and relaxed with the good weather over the weekend making it a nice time to be out and about.

  • Tuesday: club cycle at 6:30 from Stereame
  • Thursday: club cycle at 6:30 from Stereame
  • Saturday: club cycle at 9:00 from the hotel
  • Sunday: club cycle at 8:00 from Tescos / racing in Cong or Wexford

Mizen to Malin

Congrats to club member Anita Egan on completing the Mizen to Malin challenge with the North Tipp Wheelers. Her experience of the event is going to be in stark contrast to our own nightmares from 2015, where tailwinds and sun replaced headwinds, rain and cold. Anita was delighted to have finished and she has every right to be. 700km of cycling over 4 days is seriously tough, so well done on joining the Mizen to Malin survivor’s club.

Weekend Racing

Beechmount Cup, Navan: Will Rymer continued his racing education up in Meath on Saturday. The race ended up being a handicap race where the A4 bunch were swallowed up early on the first lap. It was a very tough race and Will came in with a small group a few minutes behind the main bunch.

Silver Pail, Fermoy: the club had no luck at this race on Sunday. In the youth U/14 race, Daniel was brought down in a crash so that was the end of his race. Thankfully he wasn’t hurt badly. Next up was Keith Butler in his neverending quest to escape the A4 division. The A4 race was very short and the bunch were forced to stop twice on the road to let other bunches past. This upset Keith’s rhythm and he wasn’t able to get up into the points in the sprint finish. Last to start was Tommy Hanrahan in the A3 race. Tommy tried to get in a few breaks but missed the winning break that went on the 4th lap. He had to settle for a bunch finish. This is his first race back after a while out so hopefully he can finish the season with some big results and get that promotion to the A2 division where he belongs.
