Junior Cycling: there was a great turn out at yesterdays’ training session. Shane, Gary and Anita put the juniors to the test, with a combination of two up cycling, sprint work, hill work and time trialing. The skills of cycling are being learned slowly but surely and next Thursday we should be ready for a longer cycle. You need to get in the habit of bringing a spare tube with you just in case of punctures.
Aaron Duggan put in the fastest TT time; just failing to break the 10 minute barrier with a time of 10:02. Not far behind was Seán O’Neill in a time of 10:32 on his mountain bike – that’s some going!! Impressive times were also recorded by Tom O’Meara, Calvin O’Brien, Liam Hayes, Daniel Molampy, Liam Heffernan, Tadhg Kelly and Joseph Keyes who was out with us for the first time. Most of the lads improved on their time from the previous week. Christopher O’Meara suffered from cramp on the bike but that just goes the big effort he was putting in. Fastest puncture of the day went to Shane Flynn who’s tyre was down before we left the CBS! Great stuff out of everyone!
So what’s up next for our juniors?
- For older juniors: Time Trial tomorrow in Dromineer – there will be a 15km time trial for our juniors to do. Be there at 10:15 (to start at 10:30). Make sure to bring a helmet. You should be finished at 11:20, if your parents are collecting you.
- For older juniors: Thursday spin after school at 4:30 from the CBS (takes place every week).
- For all juniors: Our next Saturday afternoon training session takes place on Saturday, March 15th in the CBS at 2:30pm. Cost is free. Spread the word!!
Gear for Juniors: thanks to Mike Browne, Martin Mitchell, Shane and Gary Scully for donating lots of old gear for our juniors (Shane’s gear was still too small!). There is still a big demand for more gear, shoes, glasses, helmets, bike parts, overshoes etc. If you have old gear that is still in pretty decent shape and you won’t be using it then drop it into the club.
Nenagh CC: Official Club Launch
We invite all of our cycling members to attend the official club launch:
When? Sunday, March 23rd
Where? Nenagh CBS hall
How long? the launch will take less than an hour of your precious time.
Why? we want to bring everyone together to lay out the plans for the year, take some team photos, sign up some new members etc.
What should I bring? bring your club gear and yourself.
What’s in it for me? well apart from getting your beautiful mug into our team photos, there will tea, coffee and biscuits served by our lovely waitress Ronan O’Driscoll. You will also get to experience another riveting, tear inducing, awe-inspiring speech from one of the Scully brothers (think Martin Luther King’s ‘I have a dream’ speech, except way better).
Who should attend? we would like our Rás team, senior racing team, junior team and leisure cyclists to all turn up.
New members: if you think you would like to cycle with our club then turn up at the launch. You will get to hear our plans and meet up with us and you will soon know if you think cycling is a sport that you would like to get into. At the very least, you will get some free biscuits and tea!! We can sign you up at the launch if you would like, but don’t worry nobody will be pushing you into doing anything.
