9 club members took part in the 70km bike race in Monasterevin today. Hugh Flannery, Kenneth Kennedy, Keith Butler, Andy McLoughlin, Shane Scully, Gary Scully, Kevin Moyles and Con Kennedy all raced in the colours of Team DMG while Eoin Woolley races for the North Tipp Wheelers. A lot of our lads put in excellent performances, with numerous lads getting in breakaways. By the end though, one large bunch of well over a hundred riders had formed and this soon led to carnage on the road.
With 5km to go Gary, Shane and Con were all involved in a big crash along with 5 other Nenagh lads from the North Tipp Wheelers. Con Kennedy unfortunately broke his collarbone in the crash. The club wish him a speedy recovery. Hugh Flannery just about avoided the pile-up and went on to take an excellent 5th place in the A4 race, thereby securing the first points of the 2013 season for the club. It was a happy finish to what was a day to forget.
Next race: The Lacey Cup, Tralee – Feb 24th
