This weekend marks the end of the 2016 season for the club. It has been the clubs most successful year to date. We have experienced much success on both the triathlon and cycling scene. It certainly will be a tough act to follow in 2017.
Big successes for the club include – anything Irish triathlete Darren Dunne entered, the emergence of two top junior cyclists (Denis and Daniel), our newbie Dublin half Ironmen and women, Ox in Zurich, Anthony in Galway, the An Post Rás team, the Tour de France team, organising 4 local triathlons, organising 2 bike races including the first Tipp Champs in ages + winning the A1, A2 and A3 event there, Paul Scully’s weight loss, the Dromineer Events, long distance swimming success, multiple cycling promotions, Derek Bowen’s facial reconstruction surgery, club trip to Lahinch, the 5km Nenagh Run Series, the TT series, the Nenagh Summer League, some promising youth triathletes coming through and getting close to 100 points scored in cycle races (still two weekends of racing left to do it!!). There were still some big disappointments such as Ronan O’Driscoll’s hair cut, Keith Butler in general and Chunk getting chunkier but all n all 2016 was a good ‘un. Now it’s time to celebrate a job well done!!!
To mark the end of year the club host our End of Year events + Club Night Out.
Tomorrow we have our End of Year Cycle and Swim. After that we will spend the evening out in Garrykennedy which will include the short AGM (don’t worry, you won’t be hassled into joining the committee – the club is a dictatorship as ye already know!). Then its back into town for the rest of the night.
Plan for tomorrow
End of Year Cycle: starts at 8:00am at the hotel.
Route: Kinnitty direction – there will be a hilly option and a flat option with a food stop in Birr on the way home (with Kenneth paying for all the grub).
End of Year Swim: starts at 5:30 in Youghal.
We are expecting around 15 swimmers at this + Andy McLoughlin. The big question is – will Andy finish? This year he is wearing flippers so that should get him to the halfway mark at least before he puts the fist up!! If someone has a kayak then come down and join in with us (Andy will keep you company at the halfway mark). There will be people there in cars to drop your gear over to Garrykennedy. All you have to do is swim over, jump in the shower, get changed and head into the pub for pints. The weather is looking excellent for this so give it a go.
Also, the Try a Tri is on tomorrow morning starting at 9:00. If any club members can marshal then contact Paul. Best of luck to all the beginner triathletes taking part. Hopefully you enjoy it and will consider joining the club in the future.
