The sun really does bring out the crowds. We had a new record turn out of 29 at the 2nd race of our Dromineer Triathlon Series. Weather conditions were very good and everyone was in fine form for this midweek race. We were a bit late starting due to the large numbers but it wasn’t long before everyone was out on the course and pushing it hard in an effort to win the €10,000 first prize.

The men’s race was very competitive. Darren Dunne did enough to take the win in a time of 0:58:44. He finished just 21 seconds ahead of Gary Scully. Team McLoughlin put in a great effort on the bike but that wasn’t enough to catapult one of their members onto the podium (more rolling over work is needed if they are to progress to the next level). Shane Scully took the last place on the podium finishing in a time of 0:59:45. His guts trailed in just behind him in a time of 0:59:46.
In the women’s race, there was a very close finish between Sinéad Kennedy and Cliodhna McGrath. Sinéad put in a fast bike split which helped her to take the win in a time of 1:15:10 with Cliodhna finishing close behind in 1:15:57. Cliodhna had plenty of excuses at the end so there will be a committee meeting later this week to see if we should award her the win. Úna O’Doherty put in a fine effort in her first ever triathlon, finishing in 3rd place in a time of 1:18:07.
Next up: With so many people doing Kilkee next Saturday week, we are not sure what will be taking place next Wednesday. We will update the website later in the week.
