There was a record turn out at our first mid-week event of the year with 29 club members on the start line for duathlon race 3. The weather was perfect for the race this evening and this led to a number of fast times being recorded. These fast times included a new course record set by Gary Scully and a large number of individual pbs set by others. This evening’s race wasn’t handicapped. Everyone was let start as soon as they were ready so as to make sure everyone was back off the bike before it got too dark. Between 6:30 and 7:10 everyone was on the road.
Fastest man on the night was Gary Scully in a time of 54:41. Gary is the first to break the 55 min barrier. Good times in all 3 sections set him up for this win. In 2nd place was Keith Butler who finished in 56:45. This is probably the highlight of Keith’s life as he bet Shane Scully who finished in 3rd in a time of 57:03. Keith commented afterwards that ‘this is the proudest day of my life; even more memorable than my wedding’ before bursting into tears. We are going to be hearing about this result for the next 6 months! In the women’s race we had two finishers with Geraldine Kyne in first in a time of 1:17 and Olivia Cahalan not too far behind finishing in 1:17:15.
Some notable performance were put in today by – Olivia Cahalan who took 7 mins off her pb. Anthony Sherlock took 6 mins off his pb. Matty Kennedy took 5 mins off his pb. Keith Butler took 2 mins off his pb. Andy McLoughlin went within 25 seconds of beating the elusive 1 hour barrier. Newcomer Daniel Gallagher put in a very strong first performance finising in 6th place. Eddie O’Meara and Barry Creamer both went very fast today. That is great going lads. Keep up the good work!!
