Club Notes

Here are the Triathlon updates from the weekend:

We had a number of people racing this weekend with some rounding off their triathlon seasons and others getting started into the Cross Country running.

County novice X-country: 3 brave members of the club ventured to mid-Tipp to take part in the feared novice cross country and along with Tom Hennessy made up the Nenagh team for the 6k event. Well done to Tom who romped home to victory and to David Sheahan, Paul Scully, and Will Rymer who all easily made it to the finishing line….a feat in itself as anyone who has done the race (and finished!) will admit!! There will be plenty more such races coming up over the winter months so if anyone wants to prepare, the run sessions are the perfect place to start. With some formidable young runners around we would hope to be able to put members in to make up teams for similar races coming up so if anyone is interested drop Paul Scully a text!!!!

Ironman Barcelona: We had two Nenagh Tri Club heads racing in IM Barcelona this weekend. Derek and John Paul Gilmartin braved their way through the Ironman distance and posted super times and great splits on the way. Both guys came out of the water in 1.05 (very suspect!!!!), flew through the bike course in 5.35.28 (Derek) and 5.36.59 (J.P) and continued on to have great runs with Derek running a 3.46.10 Marathon to finish in 10.33.43 and J.P running 4.18.30 to finish in 11.09.45. Great times guys and great racing. You did the club proud. We are waiting on Derek’s race report to pop up on the site (no pressure Derek!!)

Killashea Sprint Triathlon: We had one sole representative at this late season race in the form on John (Clever) Ryan. John had a great race posting a time of 1.19 on the course.

Event reports: We can only mention races that we know people are attending so in order to highlight races and accomplishments etc. we would be grateful if reports could be forwarded on to any member of the committee. To finish any race is always an achievement and it is good for the club to get an idea of what has been happening over the course of the week. So keep the reports coming!!!!
Winter schedule:

The winter schedule will kick into action this week and for those with an interest in the swimming and running side of things there are a number of sessions during the week. These sessions are open to all members and we would hope to get a good core group at each session.

These sessions are only as good and enjoyable as the numbers who commit to them so hopefully for the winter months we will have a large and regular turn out. The sessions will increase in intensity as the weeks go on so aiming to start now makes it easier than attending sporadically or leaving it until later in the year.

3 swimming sessions per week.

These sessions will range between 2-3k in distance, and during the winter period will largely focus on stroke development, with a smaller distance and speed component.

1 running session per week.

This session will range in distance between 6-14k, and for the first few months will largely focus on aerobic capacity and endurance training with a smaller speed component.

1-2 triathlon specific brick sessions per month.

These sessions will be a combination of bike followed by run and will increase in distance over the winter months. The main focus is on aerobic capacity and acclimatising bike to run transition.

Beginner schedule: We are in the process of developing training times and sets aimed at more novice triathletes and those hoping to attain a level to then attend the regular training schedule. More on this in the next week or so.

Triathlon and running promotion: Following a productive meeting of the club a hope for the coming year is to increase the number of members undertaking triathlon racing and also to introduce a number of new members to triathlon. With this in mind we aim to organise a number of club outings and target specific triathlon and running races during the year. More on this to come!!!
