That was a good week of training but not so good a weekend of racing. Whatever could go wrong went wrong for our club. We have had a great year so far so the odd blip won’t get us down. There is always another race next week!
Training: there is a Dromineer Triathlon on Wednesday starting at 6:45pm.
Nenagh Summer League continues on Thursday at 7:00pm.
Junior training: Tuesday at 6:00pm from the hotel. There is a race this Saturday which we hope our youth members can target. Older juniors should try to make it to the Nenagh Summer league on Thursday.
Mizen to Malin: we will have a further update on this during the week so check it out. Everyone is motoring at the moment so that is great to see. With three weeks to go everyone should be very confident in their ability to get through this.
- Final request for a driver! once again, if anyone wishes to volunteer to driver the van for this trip then it would be very much appreciated. Get in contact.
Lough Derg Sprint
- Marshalls – we are putting together our marshall list for the event. Text your name to Maeve 087-9602234 if you can marshall. It will only be for a few hours on Saturday morning, July 18th.
- Sign up for the race – all club members have permission to take part in this year’s event if they want. The club would appreciate if you could get a wife / husband / friend to marshall in your place.
International Triathlon, Holland: Darren Dunne was back in Irish colours this weekend, racing in Holland. Conditions were brutal for this race with very high temperatures making things very tough. Darren didn’t have the race he would have liked but 99.999% of Irish people would have been delighted to have gotten anywhere near where he was.
TriAthlone: as of yet the results and times aren’t available. Not sure how many club members went up to this. Congrats to Derek and John Paul Gilmartin in the half Ironman distance race. I am presuming ye got on great!
Munster Champs, Blarney: a team of 5 took part in this race for Nenagh CC. We had high hopes of getting into the prizes at this one but those hopes didn’t last long. The race today was a combined A1, A2, A3 race, with 10 laps of a 10km circuit to do. After just 1 lap we had lost 4 lads from the race with just Mikey remaining in the bunch. Murphy’s Law struck hard at this one. Shane missed the start after a mechanical, Kenneth’s gears bust, Matty got stuck behind a crash on the first climb and Kevin Sherlock got sent the wrong way by a marshall. All we could do was laugh. Mike performed well in the race getting himself into the 3rd break away on the road and finishing in the top 20 and possibly taking an unplaced A3 prize.
Blarney – Youths: a team of 6 youths made their way to Blarney for the Munster Championships. This was always going to be a very tough race due to the high quality of cyclist in attendance. Our lads did very well with Ryan and Ciara placing the highest in their categories. We will have a full report on the website asap.
Womens League Race, Bunclody: Majella Moyles and Sinead Kennedy took part in the latest round of the women’s cycling league on Sunday. The girls had 3 laps of a hilly course to do, with a hill top finish at the end. The race was very tough but our girls hung on in their right to the end. On the final climb Majella managed to come in 9th place, with Sinéad just behind in the bunch. Great stuff girls!
