It was a big week for the club with one of our big events now over and done with for the year. Fair pay to everyone that chipped in a helping hand at the Youth Race on Sunday. Things went smoothly and the feedback has been positive so far. Congrats especially to Kevin Sherlock and Ronan O’Driscoll for all their hard work putting this all together.
Training update: Swimming – morning sessions are now back on at 6:30am.
Nenagh CC Juniors: training on Thursday at 6:00pm hotel and 2:30pm on Saturday CBS
Racing: this is a big week in the triathlon and cycling season with the biggest one day events taking place in both sports. Kilkee and the cycling National Champs are taking place so that means that a lot of people will be taking it easy this week out training. The club wish everyone that is competing the very best of luck. This is why we train hard in the winter; so that we can produce the goods on the big days like this. Go out and give it your best!!
Mizen to Malin: we are searching for a driver! If anyone is interested in driving the van for the few days then get in contact. It will be a free holiday for anyone that is interested as we will pay for accommodation, dinner etc. Contact Majella if interested 087-6618801.
Tour the Burren: there were 10 or so club members at this event on Saturday. They each took on the 160km route in preparation for Mizen to Malin. No doubt I will miss some but as far as I can remember Ned and John Gleeson, Pat Reddan, Mike Browne, Sinnead Oakes, Geraldine Kyne, Gillian Mounsey, Noel Kennedy, and Clifford Guest – all took part. They got through it without a bother.
Boruman Sprint Triathlon: We had 19 people from Nenagh TC representing us at the Boruman Sprint Triathlon on Saturday 13th June which took place in Killaloe Co. Clare. The weather was super and the conditions were ideal for the day that was in it with a light breeze and the sun showing its face for most of the race.
1st man home from the club was Darren Dunne in a time of 1.04.04. It looked like there might be a race for the finish with Darren and Rory Sexton shoulder to shoulder coming over the bridge at the 1km mark in the run but in the end Darren comfortably took it by 1m20.
Next home was Keith Butler in 15th a time of 1.12.00 (1st in the “oldies” category!!!!). After that was Derek Bowen in 1.15.23 (21st), Bill O’Brien 1.19.07 (36th), Stephen Greene 1.20.48 (47th), Cliodhna McGrath 1.22.04 (53), Eddie O’Meara 1.22.08 (54), Brian McLoughlin 1.23.49 (62), Colm Glynn 1.25.21 (72), Barry Creamer 1.25.50 (73), Mark Crawford (Nenagh TC Newbie!!!!) 1.29.14 (97), Nenagh TC Relay 1.31.02 (105), John Ryan Clever 1.34.53 (127), Aaron Duggan 1.37.12 (137), Mary Duggan 1.48.19 (162), Carmel Finn 1.52.24 (165) and Denis Ryan 1.59.23 (167)
Our Nenagh CC team mate, Rachel Clancy had a great race coming 3rd female in a time of 1.14.53. We had some casualties around the course but that didn’t stop anyone finishing the run and crossing the finish line. Great results and well done to everyone who took part. Great race again held by the gang in Boru TC and enjoyed by all in Nenagh TC.
BOI Shannon Runway 5km: 4 club members traveled to Shannon Airport for the BOI Shannon Runway. This is a great event and attracted more than 2000 competitors (walkers and runners) to the start line. The start was a bit manic with 2000 over-eager people trying to wrestle each other out of the way to get a “sprint” start in……..they werent in that much of a rush by the end!!!!!
The race is run on the runway (title says it all really) and kicked off at 00.15 on Friday 19th/Saturday 20th. It’s an unusual event in that you are effectively running in the dark with the exception of the runway lights and spotlights scattered around the course. There were lots of people bouncing around with head torches though which lit the place up immensely.
1st home was Michael Buckley in 23.11, Sinead Lee 24.28, Maeve Ryan 25.28, Emma Buckley 26.24. PBs for all four so well done.
