Another week over and done with. We are almost half way through the cycling season at this stage. If you haven’t started racing yet then get a move on! Meanwhile our triathletes are just getting warmed up. The Joey Hannon was on this weekend. Find out how our club members got on below.
Training: the usual training sessions are on offer again this week. We probably won’t be getting into the lake at the end of this week, but the hope is to get in the water the following week.
Events: Club Time Trial – Wednesday at 7:00 starting at the hospital. A group will be going on a warm up cycle from the pool at 6:15 if you want to join them. Cost for this is free. Juniors should try to make it to this session too. There is a choice of 3 distances to choose from. Go as hard or as easy as you want, just make sure you are there.
Nenagh CC Juniors: it is a big week for our juniors. There is training on at 6:00pm on Tuesday and 4:20 on Thursday. Our juniors are also invited to attend the club time trial league where you can take on the 15km distance race. Come the weekend, all eyes will turn to the Kanturk stage race for juniors. We will have a team of 4 heading down to this. Our juniors will race 3 stages over two days and this is the first real test of the season for them. Best of luck!!
Mizen to Malin: preparations continue for our big cycling challenge. There are just 12 weeks left to train for this, so you need to be getting out on your bike as much as possible. Remember, you can drop down payments to Majella at any time. Over the next few weeks we hope to start lengthening the weekend cycles so be prepared!
Joey Hannon: Darren Dunne, Amy Killeen, Ramon Rodriquez, PJ Brett and Anthony Sherlock represented the club at this race in Limerick today. Darren finished on the podium in the sprint distance race. He finished in 3rd in a time of 1:02, but knowing Darren I am sure he isn’t overly happy with that result. Tis early days yet and I am sure he will back on top of the podium before long. Amy Killeen (Aidan’s daughter) was taking part in her first triathlon today and was 3rd female in the junior event. This is a great result for her and she should be well pleased with that performance. Ramon took part in the Olympic distance event and finished in a time of 2:33, which saw him finish in 74th position. PJ was only 1 minute behind at 2:34 and 79th place. Anthony finished in 164th and a time of 2:56. Well done to all 5 at the race!
Currow: 3 club members took part in this race today. Keith Butler, Stephen Hegarty and Emmet Murphy donned the club colours down in Kerry. Emmet did extremely well in the A3 race and is really starting to come into fine form. Emmet finished in the points in 5th place. He got himself into a breakaway of about 15 that stayed away to the line. Keith and Stephen were in the A4 race and both finished high up but outside the points. This was Stephen’s first race so fair play to him. It’s great to have another club member out there racing.
Tour of Lough Derg: the North Tipp Wheelers are hosting their annual tour in 3 weeks time. This tour is normally well attended by our club members. If you are free that weekend then you might as well take part.
