Club Notes

That was another great week of training. Post-Christmas fitness levels are improving quickly and with the bike racing and duathlon seasons just about to kick off, it’s about time too! Thanks to everyone that supported the race on Saturday in such big numbers; remember you have just 2 weeks to get ready for the next one.

The training weekend was capped off by one of the most comical knock victims we have ever seen – take a bow Eoin O’Donoghue! Eoin hit the wall 50 miles from Nenagh in the Glen of Aherlow. ‘I can’t cycle any more’, ‘I’m ringing for home!’ (I don’t think that phone call home would have gone down very well!!), ‘I am not hungry’, ‘I’m NOT GOING!’, ‘Leave me here!’ were the words of wisdom coming from his mouth. After an unscheduled food stop, Eoin jumped back on the bike and cycled the 50 miles back home with us. Gas man!  We have all been there.

Racing action: kicks off in February for most. Are you ready for it? If not, do something about it.

Training: In short

Monday – Berties circuits, Tuesday – early morning swim + evening turbo, Wednesday = beginner day run + swim, Thursday – club run. On Friday the club rested. Weekend is devoted to hardship on the bike.

Nenagh-CC-logoNenagh CC Juniors: just turbo at 6:00pm in the running complex for the juniors this week. Older juniors should look to join in with the senior cycle on Saturday. Those that are 16 years+ should be looking at cycling on Saturday and Sunday with the club. If you are looking to take part in the big championship races this year then you need to dedicate yourself to the bike a little more. Cycling twice a week is just not going to be good enough.

Mizen to Malin update: there has been a very positive response to our proposal to target a 3 day Mizen to Malin attempt this year. The route we put up on the website last week seems to be the preferred route – it won’t be easy but it will be eventful. The date we are now looking at is Fri 24th, Sat 25th, and Sun 26th of July. Give feedback on this date to the club committee. It will require getting a day or possibly two off from work for most. We will go with what the majority want so if there is a better day then let us know.

It goes without saying that this is a serious undertaking for anyone that wishes to do it. It is not something you rock up to with no training done. You have 6 months to get your ass in gear, so get your bike out and start putting in the miles this week. Get out with our Saturday and Sunday spins as much as possible.
