We are now entering the final week of club training in 2014. It has been a great calendar year for the club with plenty of success stories to celebrate. We hope people can keep the effort up for one more week and then come celebrate with us at the Club Christmas Night Out on Saturday.
There are just 7 official training sessions left!
Monday: Bertie’s Circuit Training at 7:00pm
Tuesday: Morning swim at 6:40am + turbo at 6:00pm for the juniors and 7:30 for seniors.
Wednesday: Beginner run at 6:30pm + evening swim at 8:00pm
Thursday: Morning swim at 6:40am
Saturday: Winter Warriors Cup
If you can only make it to one training session this week, let this be it. The Winter Warriors Cup is a super serious cycle race, which boasts a €10,000 cash prize and club legend status. Details for this huge event are below:
When: Saturday, 9:00am
Teams: we hope to have 4 teams on the road – juniors, women, and two mens teams (fraud squad led by Keith ‘Ironman’ Butler and the ‘God, ye think ye are great’ squad)
Route: We will do a 20 mile warm-up before the race starts. The race will start just outside Toomevara, heading towards Moneygall – Roscrea – Moneygall – Toomevara and back to the finish in Nenagh at the 50km sign near the pool (look for the checkered flag and RTE cameras – make sure to work on your finishing pose for the cameras during the week). Race distance = 30 miles / 49 km. People can cycle straight out to the start in Toom if they want (try to be there before 10:20).
Format: each team will have a large handicap. The juniors will be off first, followed a few mins later by the women’s team and the men’s teams. You have to work together as a team – the aim is not to drop all your team mates! If a team from behind catches you then jump in with them and work together to stay away. We want to keep at least 75% of each bunch together, so for some that will mean you need to slow down to match the overall group’s pace. If all 4 teams come together before the end then it is a free for all. There is no obligation to work on the front. Save your energy for the sprint or shoot off on a solo breakaway for victory and be crowned king of the club.
Christmas Club Night Out
When: Saturday, 20th at 9:00pm
As usual, we will celebrate the achievements of our club members in the 2014 season in a very unprofessional manner. Expect plenty of free pints and free food for soakage. We have all put in a huge effort over the last few months so it’s time to relax and see what people look like without a helmet or goggles on! See you there.
Sunday: and on the 7th day the club rested.
