Club Notes

Training today: run at 6:15pm. Meet at the CBS. This run will go around the town and is likely to be an easy one today as people are just recovering from the marathon. In previous years, numbers have been slack enough for our runs when the evenings have gotten darker. We will continue to trial run this session as long as there is a decent turn out. If numbers drop then it will be cancelled. With 5 swims per week and 3 cycles on our timetable, it would be a shame to not be able to have at least one club run each week. So, if you want the run to continue then turn up!

Club membership: is now due (adults €25 / juniors €10). Maeve Ryan is in charge of the membership this year but if you have trouble locating her then give it to Shane at the Saturday cycle this weekend.

Club Gear: we are hoping to put in an order for club gear in two weeks time (to make sure people have the gear for Christmas!!). After ordering almost €12,000 worth of gear for the club last year, Kevin Sherlock has hired a new deputy Kenneth Kennedy to help him out. So get in contact with either of them soon. If you want to have gear for the start of next season then now is the time to order. Kenneth will be there on Saturday with gear for people to try on to get the correct size.

Gear + Prices: found at the bottom of – www.nenaghtriathlonclub.com/nenagh-cycling-club/. We will also be ordering in some cycling hats, gloves, arm warmers etc.

Swimming: numbers have been good so far at our swim training. It is good to see a lot of new faces at our beginner session on Wednesday evenings; hopefully we will have everyone swimming well by Christmas. Just a reminder that there will be a new Friday morning swim starting tomorrow at 7:00am. We will be hoping to focus on different set types such as techinique work, long distance, sprints etc. on different mornings.

Beginner swimming: For those looking to improve your swimming – try to get down to the pool at least 2 or 3 times each week (inc. the Wednesday swim). Practice the drills you are learning on Wednesdays until you have mastered them. Also, take a look at this website www.swimsmooth.com and start to familiarise yourself with what a good front crawl stroke looks like. There is lots of information on that site that you need to know, so get studying!

Junior Cycling: we are out today at 2:00pm from the Five Alley. Also, try and join our senior cyclists on saturday morning. Most of ye should be able for the 54km route.

Sunday Cycle: is now an official club cycle. It is open to everyone but the it wouldn’t be classified as beginner friendly as the distance and average pace will be a little too much for inexperienced riders. This cycle leaves at 8:00am from Tescos and will typically be the lake route (70 miles) with a coffee break at half way. We are normally back in Nenagh for 12:00.

If you miss the Saturday cycle then try your best to make the Sunday cycle. If you are planning a big bike racing season next year then try and make it to both! It takes a while to get used to two big mileage days in a row but you will get there.

Saturday Cycle: we will be taking on a new route this Saturday, so hopefully the weather will be kind to us. As always the cycle will start at 9:00am from the Abbey Court Hotel (8:00am for people that want a little extra). Do not park in the pool! Beginner cyclists are advised to turn for home when we reach Cloughjordan – if you feel good try and make it to Borrisokane. There will be two interval sessions on this cycle. The second one is quite bumpy.

We want to see a more even split in bunch size this weekend. The pace of group 2 will drop a little so the top few in group 1 can join this group – that will leave group 1 with a smaller bunch than last week but the average pace should drop meaning it is easier for the 1st bunch to stay together. At the moment we have too many strong people driving it at the front of the 1st group – ye need to make the step up to the 2nd group. We don’t want to see 7 or 8 lads out the back of the 1st group – that is not what it is for.
