Club Notes

Practice Swim: the final open water practice swim before our End of Year Swim takes place tomorrow, Tuesday at 6:30 at Youghal.

End of Year Swim: not long to go now. The straight to swim to Garry is not all that long so don’t be scared of it. Remember there will br drinks afterwards in Larkins and then back in town somewhere. This year, we haven’t had many chances to socialise together so make a special effort to be at this one.

Kayaks needed: if you own a kayak or boat then we would really appreciate it if you could accompany our swimmers in the water.

Weekend Racing:

  • Lost Sheep Half Ironman: Ronan O’Driscoll and Derek Bowen made the long trip down to Kenmare for the Half Ironman National Championships. The Kenmare race is a very tough one with a lot of hard climbs to negotiate. Securing a fast finishing time is by no means easy. Derek Bowen went down with the aim of breaking the 5 hour mark. Did he do it? we will never know! The official time is down as 5:00:01 but Derek’s time on his own watch had him finishing on . I suppose we will give him the benefit of the doubt! Ronan O’Driscoll also put in a great effort finishing in a time of 5:21.
  • Nenagh CC: Kilmallock: The club had two entrants in the A4 race down in Kilmallock. It is the end of season for most but one man decided to leave it till the end to make his racing debut – Michael Browne. On what a debut it was as Mike survived the tough course with ease and managed to take a fine 6th place. Also racing was Eoin Woolley who was looking to secure the final few points needed to gain promotion to the A3 ranks. His 7th place finish was good enough for a few points but he just falls short of promotion.
