Dromineer Duathlon: Race 2

The 2013 duathlon season is in full swing with races taking place all over the country. It is no different here in Nenagh. The second of our Dromineer Duathlons takes place this Saturday and we hope that all our club members can support this. If you have never done anything like this before then don’t worry, we don’t take it all that serious. All you really need is a bike, helmet, runners, shorts (with padding for comfort on the bike), t-shirt and a little bit of courage. It will begin at 9.30, so try to be there about 10 mins earlier to get you and your bike ready.

The race will be the usual distance: 5km run, 19km bike, 2km run and the cost is free. There will be tea, coffee and food available at the end.

Saturday cycle: will not be going ahead due to the duathlon on this Saturday.

Last Saturday’s cycle: 18 club members completed the 52 mile round trip cycle last Saturday. It was great to see such a big turnout. We had the pleasure of a few of the DMG race team cyclists join us. It was the day before their debut race. Were they looking for a handy cycle or some moral support?… Temperatures were quite mild on the day, (a lot of stripping of layers took place before start of cycle), however the wind was strong. The route from Nenagh to Roscrea was a hard warm up against an easterly wind, with the most challenging section between Roscrea and Borrisoleigh. On the homeward section, we had a welcoming tail wind. The speed picked up from Borrisoleigh, which helped to gain an average speed of 17mph.

Table Quiz: The North Tipp Wheelers are holding a table quiz in the Dapp Inn this Friday the 22nd at 9pm. Great entertainment and prizes are promised.

Bike racing team:

  • The Team DMG launch night takes place this Friday, Feb 22nd at the Abbey Court Hotel. Attendance is compulsory. Things are set to kick off at 8:00pm. Arrive early.
  • The bike racing team will be cycling as per usual at 9:00am on Saturday from the swimming pool.
  • The next race on the calendar is the Lacey Cup in Tralee on Sunday. Registration closes at 11:30am and the race pulls out at 11:45. The distance is 75km, with two decent size hills in it. Lifts to the race will be organised on Friday evening.

Turbo: These sessions will continue on Tuesday and Thursdays at 7:30pm in the running complex until the clocks go forward at the end of March. With the racing season now started, getting those tough mid week cycles in is very important. Once the clocks go forward we will be out on the road on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. There will be tough rolling over sessions and time trial leagues to look forward too!
