Club Notes

Today’s training: our Monday track session returns this evening at 6:15pm in the CBS. We hope to see some new faces at this.

Committe Meeting: there will be a committee meeting for the Nenagh Triathlon and Nenagh Cycling Clubs next Friday at 7:00pm in the Abbey Court Hotel. We need to discuss upcoming event organisation and club training plans.

Lake Swimming: the club were in Yougal swimming yesterday evening and although the water was choppy the swimming was good. It is definitely time for people to start commiting to attending these open water swimming sessions. With the lack of pool swimming going on at the moment it is important to get into the lake whenever you can. The first open water triathlons of the season are starting next weekend so dust off that wetsuit and join us.

Club events: the two events to attend this week are the Club TT league at 7:00pm on Wednesday and the Nenagh Summer League at 7:00pm on Thursday.

  • Junior training: we were very pleased with the numbers that showed up on a very wild Saturday afternoon. Kevin, Gary, Bertie and Anita made sure all our juniors went home tired after a tough session. There will be no Saturday training next week, but the Thursday session at 4:30pm at the CBS will be on as usual. If you are looking to join us on the Thursday evening training spins then we need to know that you are able to cycle your bike properly as it can be dangerous out on the roads – attending one of our Saturday training spins on the track is essential. Kevin can then give you the go ahead to join us out on the road once we know you have the necessary skills.
  • Senior training: Rant Alert!! there is a club cycle on each Saturday. It is expected that club members will support this when possible. We are trying to develop a club here. While we may have over 60 members joined up in our first year, if everyone just decides to do their own thing or we have split groups all going out at different times, then there won’t be much of a club left in 2015. Use Sunday for your own cycling plans. The Saturday morning club cycle this week had to be cancelled due to lack of numbers showing up. This is a trend that has been getting worse. This trend cannot be let continue as this is the only club training session of the week and it is embarrasing that we can’t  pull a crowd together. How are we supposed to develop our next bunch of racers in the club? Nenagh CC has one race and one training session each week – it is not too much to ask of people to support both. This rant is especially aimed at our racing members. We ask our non racing members to turn up at our mid week race and then don’t support the Saturday spin. That is not right.
  • An Post Rás: the Rás team are into their final week of preparations. Nothing much can be done now, it’s either sink or swim. Shane will be updating this website with a race diary each evening for the 8 days of the Rás to let people know how things are going. So if you want to keep up to date with our progress then open up this website daily for a read.

Weekend Racing: it was a very quiet weekend for the club in terms of racing. With Gillian and Matty getting married this weekend (congrats!) a lot of the club took the weekend off. A few lads were also up at the Giro, Ronan O’Driscoll was busy winning the Eurovision and a few other lads were just lazy!

  • Portumna 10km – David Sheahan, Andy McLoughlin, Gary Scully and Glenn Austin all took part in the Portumna 10km on Saturday. The conditions weren’t ideal but that didn’t stop our lads from doing very well with gary winning the race and Andy coming 3rd.
