Club Notes

Two important events coming up this week:

  • Monday Track Session: Re-starts this evening at 6:15pm in the CBS. This will be the main running session of the week and we urge everyone to try and make it.
  • Dromineer Duathlon: Race 2 – takes place next Saturday, March 8th. We will be starting the race at 10:00am. These races are excellent for getting you up to speed for the triathlon season ahead. This race will be handicapped with the fastest lads going last. There will be roughly 30 minutes between the first and last competitor on the start line. So you can judge the time you need to be in Dromineer yourself. There is no point turning up early if you are not going to be starting until 10:30. We need one volunteer to time the event so if you have some spare time on Saturday morning then let us know.

Nenagh CC: Cycling gear – Kevin is taking orders again for cycling gear. If you need something then make sure to text him asap. His number is 0868602011.

Triathlon Gear: the club are currently in the process of choosing a design for our new triathlon gear. We hope to have it available to anyone that requires it before the season starts.

Rás fundraising: the donations continue to come in for the Rás. Everyone on the team would like to say a big thank you to all who have donated so far.

Weekend Racing:

Broadford Road Race: Nenagh CC continued on the good form from Saturday with another strong showing on Sunday. We have already reported on the Saturday results, but there were also plenty of lads racing on Sunday as well. 6 lads made the short trip to Broadford in Co. Limerick for a tough, hilly race. In the A1/A2/A3 race the club were represented by Gary and Shane Scully. Both lads put in a big effort and Shane managed to come away with a prize and points for finishing in 6th place overall >> click here to read Shane’s full race report.

In the A4 race we had Kenneth Kennedy, Con Kennedy, Andy McLoughlin and Graham Prendergast on the start line. The lads had 3 laps to do but the race was cut short for Kenneth Kennedy as he punctured out on lap 1. That is very frustrating for Kenneth who I am sure would have done very well in this race. All was not lost though as the other lads battled hard to the end. Con Kennedy showed that he is back on form, after missing the whole of last year with a broken collar bone injury, by driving the pace on the final climb and whittling down the bunch to only a select few in the end. Con was unlucky in the sprint finish as he was blocked by another rider and lost all momentum. He still managed to finish in the prizes and the points in 5th place overall.

Cycleways Cup: The club were also represented at the Cycleways Cup in Navan where Simon Ryan finished comfortably in the bunch. In the women’s race, Sinnead Oakes racing for the North Tipp Wheelers did well in her first race of the season and finished in the bunch. Well to all our club members that were racing this week!!

Next up: Rás Luimní – takes place just down the road in Caherconlish next Sunday. It would be great if we could bring a big team to this as it is important to support local races like this. If you have been putting off racing till now then try and make this your first one – you have to start sometime and the longer you leave it the tougher it will be!
