Text List: We have been doing some spring cleaning of the club text list. We have added a few names and deleted a few names of people that we haven’t seen at training or racing for a long time. We will be sending out text updates about training, triathlon registration opening dates, racing , cancellations etc. If you want to receive these updates then text your number to Shane 087 2605743.
Facebook: The best way to keep in touch with what we are doing is via our Facebook page. Add us as a friend and keep in touch with our future plans. We are closing in on the 600th friend mark. So head on over there now and check us out.
Joey Hannon Triathlon: This Limerick race is usually a popular one with our members >> registration is now open.
Junior Cycling: Thursday training session – is cancelled as we forgot that there was no school this week (you would think Mr. Scully would have remembered!). The Saturday session is still on at 2:30pm so we hope to see ye all there. The Thursday session will start on Feb 27th.
Rás fundraising: the Rás racing members would like to thank everyone that has donated a little something or a big something to help our fundraising efforts.
Weekend racing: It was a big weekend of racing for the club with over 30 members taking part in races. We have already mentioned the duathlon results, but there was also people in bike racing and running action too.
- Cycling: the first race of the year took place on Sunday in Monasterevin in Co. Kildare. This was the first ever outing for our new cycling club – Nenagh CC – and we had 8 club members on the start line. Gary Scully, Shane Scully (click to read Shane’s race report) and Simon Ryan took part in the A1/A2 race and all finished safely in the bunch. All 3 were in breaks at some point but never really threatened to do much in this race. In the A4 race we were represented by Kenneth Kennedy, Keith Butler, Kevin Sherlock and Andy McLoughlin. Kenneth performed best on the day but stayed clear of the sprint at the end and just rolled in with the bunch. In the women’s race, Anita Egan was making her racing debut and performed very well. It was great to get the season underway but it is clear that plenty of hard work is still needed.
- Next up: two options for Sunday, Feb 23rd – Lacey Cup in Tralee or a race in Loughrea.
- Running: Darren Dunne put in a storming run at the Senior All Ireland Indoor Championships in Athlone. Darren knocked a huge 11 seconds off his PB for the 3000m finishing in a time of 8:42. This time should be good enough to see Darren running in the European Championships for his age group. It doesn’t get much better than that!! Darren and Killian Cullagh also took part in the Munster Schools cross country on Thursday. In the senior boys category, Darren did very well finishing in 2nd place with Killian finishing in 10th. Great stuff lads!!!!
- Ger and Ali Kirby were also in running action as they took part in the Barcelona half marathon. Ger finished in a time of 1:27 and Ali finished in a time of 1:52. Well done to both.
