Another mixed day for our bike racing lads today. 9 club members attended a race in Loughrea. There was a separate A4 race which was 55km long and a combined A1/A2/A3 race which was 85km long. Hugh, Kenneth, Kevin M, Kevin S, Keith and Andy took part in the A4 race. Gary, Shane and Eamon took part in the A3 race.
Unluckily, we had four more down in crashes this week. Gary was taken down for the second time in two races in the A3/A2/A1 race and Hugh, Kenneth, Keven M and Keith’s luck ran out this week as they came down in the A4 race. That’s our whole team down on the floor at least once now and they have the bruises and broken bones to show for it. It’s not the best advertisement for cycling but spirits are still high and next week brings another challenge.
On a brighter note, Shane managed to get into a 6 man breakaway that stayed away to the finish line. Shane used his fine finishing sprint to finish last of the breakaway group, but still picked up points for the club and the 6th place prize. Shane and Hugh just missed out on the KOM prizes too with both lads coming in 2nd. Kevin Sherlock was unlucky not to pick up points in the A4 race as he came home in 8th place overall, with points going for the top 6.
Eoin Woolley was also racing today for the North Tipp Wheelers. He took part in the Lacey Cup down in Tralee and put in another solid performance.
Next up: is a hilly one in Broadford, Co. Limerick.
